Kedanya RPG - Episode 5
Saturday, January 29th
Most of the crew is assembled in the mess, where Captain Maelwys is giving them an informal briefing
Maelwys: So, who here realizes what day it is today?
Q-Three: sips some herbal tea
Maelwys: Actually, what day it is today is irrelevent. The important day is still a couple days down the road, Feb 2nd.
Q-Three: um... no, do tell
Maelwys: February 2nd is the 3rd anniversay of this station. But more important for us, it's the birthday of a dear friend of ours, James Phantom.
NAP Hirogen: ok
Q-Three: oh really? smiles
NAP Hirogen: I assume that we are going to have some sort of festivity that the phantom is currently unaware of, right?
Tosk: splendid!
Maelwys: James doesn't actually have a birthday, not that he knows at least. But after all that he's done for us here, I've decided that we should give him one. And the anniversary of the station that he helped build seemed like a fitting time to have that. So, who here wants to have a surprise party for him? :)
NAP Hirogen: ok
Tosk: that sounds like an excellent Idea, provided he'll be in a good mood
Q-Three: I don't think he'll be too thrilled.. he hates surprises
Maelwys: Well, we can hope that he is. And if not, we'll make him be in one.
Q-Three: well then Tamar will certainly have to be there : )
Maelwys: Well Q3, we'll have to make this surprise good enough that he can't help but enjoy it. And she will be there, don't worry.
Tosk: ok, so how are we going to go about this?
Maelwys: Also, I'm going to get a nice gift for him, so anybody that is willing to chip in some of their credits to help buy it, it would be appreciated.
Q-Three: can do... I have enough saved up to last a millenium
NAP Hirogen: ok
Tosk: sounds good to me, I've got plenty of credits
NAP Hirogen: and I have found numerous unidentifiable dead bobies that have a lot of credits on them
Maelwys: Okay then, we need somebody to bake a cake and get ice-cream. Who's up for that?
Q-Three: moves away from NAP
Tosk: I can get ice cream.. eyes Hirogen suspiciously
NAP Hirogen: I can do some baking, what kind of cake do you want to have baked?
Q-Three: I guess I'll get cake
Q-Three: oh, nevermind... stands up
Tosk: silently congratulates himself on not being stuck with real work
Q-Three: tries to imagine Hiro baking... fails
Tosk: If this is a typical Surprise party, what will we do to get James there?
NAP Hirogen: Q3 where do you think I get the pies for my Hiro-gun™ if I don't bake them myself
NAP Hirogen: JJP what are doing here?
Maelwys: Tosk, We'll have to brainstorm on that. We've got a few days before we have the party, so everybody brainstorm about that. Also, anybody that wants to make decorations, can.
Tosk: right, I'll try to get some talent to help with the decorations
Maelwys: Any other questions? If not we'll meet back here in the morning of the 2nd for the party.
NAP Hirogen: ok
Q-Three: can do.
Tosk: sounds good to me
NAP Hirogen: wait Mael what kind of cake?
Maelwys: Whatever you think he'd like.
NAP Hirogen: ok
Maelwys: Okay then, I'll see you all back here in a couple days. walks out of the room to get back to his duties
Q-Three: sits back down and sips some tea
Three Days Later
by now not everything has gone according to plan. Maelwys has been unexpectantly called off on an away mission and returned to find the station over-run with the enemy (for reference, see Episode 4)... but after getting that all cleaned up, the crew manages to meet back in the Mess anyway to forget about these recent worries
Tosk: sits down in his usual chair in the conference room
Maelwys: walks back into the Mess looking a little worn but ready to party
Maelwys: Okay, are we all ready for this?
Tosk: is sitting in his chair
NAP Hirogen: yes
Maelwys: We've got cake and ice cream?
Tosk: I have 10 gallons of Ice cream yes, I got quite a bit, but it was on sale!!
NAP Hirogen: I have spent the last three days baking the cake
Maelwys: Very impressive. :)
Jason: walks in examining a hypo... I've got a hypo
NAP Hirogen: wheels it in
Maelwys: How about decorations? What's the state of those?
Q-Three: whips around to spot Jason with a hypo
Q-Three: grabs it from him... Give me that!
Q-Three: hypos him
Jason: uuuhh... plop
Tosk: I've got some basic party decorations here sir, but I think we should have something more personal, too
Maelwys: Well, I've got one decoration that's more personal, and should hopefully be enough that he won't care about the rest. :)
Maelwys: Besides, we've no time to set them up, because there's been a change in plans. Rather than bringing him here, we're just going to go surprise him. He and Tamar are having breakfast in her quarters right now.
Maelwys: So are we all ready to go?
NAP Hirogen: ok
Tosk: puts on his party hat yep!
NAP Hirogen: readies a site to site transporter for the cake
Tosk: oh, I guess I'd look silly if I was the only one wearing one... passes out the party hats
Maelwys: Then lets go! leads the group out the door and towards Tamar's quarters
Maelwys: grabs a party hat to wear
Jason: drags the body out... almost!
Tosk: follows Maelwys
NAP Hirogen: follows everyone out
Meanwhile in Tamar's Quarters...
...James has just made the attempt of making a nice breakfast for Tamar and himself but unfortunately he has failed miserably and so now goes to try again...
James J. Phantom: disappears back into the kitchen to seek for something to actually use
Tamar: still sits at the table and tries to decide whether to help him or not
Tamar: He would be probably offended, so she doesn't and just sits
James J. Phantom: is angry with himself and will not make this stupid mistake again!
Tamar: drifts away in the thoughts of last night
James J. Phantom: starts humming a song while preparing some things
Tamar: hears the music and smiles. He's not that angry with himself, as it seems.
Tamar: sighs happily
James J. Phantom: curses a few times, even during the singing
Computer: beeps, indicating somebody at the door
Tamar: pretends not to hear that and just thinks a little more
James J. Phantom: doesn't even hear it, is busy in the kitchen
Computer: beeps again, impatiently
Tamar: wakes from her thoughts and frowns Who could that be?
Tamar: gets up and opens the door
Maelwys: pushes in past her into the room HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAMES!!
Tamar: Uhm...
James J. Phantom: peeps out of the kitchen
James J. Phantom: What the ......?!
Tamar: What the...?!
Maelwys: starts spreading decorations around the room and gesturing for people to come in behind him
NAP Hirogen: follows Meal into the room
Tosk: in the background to James Surprise!!!!! happy birthday James!!
Maelwys: puts party hats onto Tamar's and James' heads
James J. Phantom: drops his jaw, still halfway standing in the kitchen with a pan in his hand
Q-Three: drags Jason in, puts a party hat on him and props him up against the wall a la Weekend at Bernies
NAP Hirogen: Computer energize
Tamar: stares very dumbly
James J. Phantom: Maelwys.... Q-Three.... Hirogen, Tosk ... what....
Maelwys: We decided that today is James' birthday. So, we're here to have a party for him. :)
James J. Phantom: But ... I don't have... a birthday.
James J. Phantom: still tries to get his jaw back in place
Maelwys: You do now!
Q-Three: you do now ... smiles
The Cake: materializes in the half of the room by the windows
Tamar: A birthday party?
Maelwys: helps James get his jaw in place by putting the strap from his party hat on it
James J. Phantom: looks really dumb now
Maike: slips in through the door and whispers to Jason: Sorry I am late.
James J. Phantom: But ... hey!
Maelwys: laughs at James' silly expression with the hat on
Crys: follows in, grinning
Jason: snores
Crys: I hear there is a party going on?
Tamar: looks at James Why didn't you tell me you had your birthday today?
Maelwys: Crys, there is. It's James' birthday. :)
Tosk: You'd better believe it Crys!
James J. Phantom: puts the pan away and looks really lost
Maike: pokes Jason Hey! Wake up!
James J. Phantom: I am afraid I wasn't aware .... to Tamar
Tamar: If I had known... looks at her shabby clothes, and at James'...
Crys: Congrats, James! Ehh ... Mr. Phantom, sir!
Crys: motions to Mael
Jason: ZZZZZZ...Z...z.. chk! huh?
NAP Hirogen: that's quite alright Tamar
Maelwys: Tamar, We're all friends, the party is nothing formal.
James J. Phantom: has this particular "I Hate Parties!" expression
Maike: Silly. grins and turns to James Yes, happy birthday, Mr. Phantom.
Maelwys: gives James a nudge Cheer up! You're not allowed to look like that on your birthday. :)
Tosk: in a kind, but non-intrusive manner You look wonderful in everything Miss Tamar :-)
Q-Three: knows deep down somewhere James is happy to see everyone
Tamar: I...
James J. Phantom: makes sure Tosk has an encounter with the wall now
Tamar: is very overwhelmed and grabs James' hand
James J. Phantom: tries to defend himself against the birthday greetings
Crys: gets the computer to play some party music
Maelwys: Aha! I knew I forgot something! The music....
Tosk: accepts the punishment and doesn't retaliate I was only telling the truth, I wouldn't dream of splitting you two up!
Tamar: scratches head Well, uhm... sit down. Please?
James J. Phantom: scowls at Tosk and turns to the cake, staring at it
Maelwys: Ooh! And the punch, I forgot that too. runs to the replicator and makes a big bowl of party punch
Tamar: looks a little panicked We haven't... anything in store.
Jason: tries desperately to wake up
Maike: helps him with that
Tosk: sits in an available chair, nursing his sore elbow, but decides against possibly provoking James any more, seeing he doesn't seem to like the party
Maelwys: puts the punch down next to the cake and ice cream So, who's hungry?
NAP Hirogen: sits down for a moment
Crys: strolls around, trying the punch
Q-Three: looks at James, looks at Jason, and suddenly feels rather alone
Maike: asks her friend How does it taste?
Crys: Try! It's yummy!
Tosk: gets up and gets some punch and Ice cream
James J. Phantom: just stands around
Maike: gets herself a bowl and tries some
NAP Hirogen: gets up and gets a glass of punch
Maelwys: gets the knife and hands it to James You have to cut the cake now. :)
Maelwys: grabs a holo-cam and hands it to Q3 If you don't mind being the photographer?
Tamar: stands close beside him, not knowing what to do next
Tosk: motions to James would you like something to drink or eat?
James J. Phantom: Cut ... the cake?
Q-Three: um.... alright
James J. Phantom: looks entirely and utterly confused
Maike: agrees with Crys and pours another glass for Jason Here. Perhaps this will wake you.
Maelwys: Yes James, cut your birthday cake. :)
Jason: uhhh... sips
James J. Phantom: looks from one to the other and knows he has no choice ... well, this could be an interesting new experience....
Crys: watches the birthday child and grins
Tosk: stands drinking his punch..
Tamar: looks at James Go ahead. smiles
James J. Phantom: takes a deep breath and cuts the cake
Maelwys: Yeay!!
Crys: Woohoohooo!!
Crys: applaudes
Maike: toasts
Maike: To you.
The Cake: starts singing happy birthday and thorws some holographic confetti
Maelwys: To our great birthday boy, and even greater friend, James! toasts
James J. Phantom: looks amazed!
Tamar: smiles even brighter and leaves for a bit to get plates
Crys: toasts with a big grin
NAP Hirogen: lifts glass to the toast
Tosk: To James! clinks his glass with whomever is standing near him
Q-Three: snaps a picture
Tosk: finds there is nobody near him, and feels silly.. simply smiles
Maike: clinks glass with Jason's and sits down
Jason: is still having problems with consciousness
James J. Phantom: blushes a little, luckily unseen beneath the mask
James J. Phantom: Thank you ....
Maelwys: Now, before everybody gets all dirty with cake, I think we should present the present. ( okay, that sounds better than it types ;-) )
James J. Phantom: A present? His eyes turn a little larger
Jason: snaps a picture
Jason: hands the camera back to Q
Maelwys: It wouldn't be a birthday party without a present. :) So all of your friends got together to buy you something that I'm sure you'll love. :)
Tamar: A present? Dammit, I have none!
James J. Phantom: is baffled. They bought something for him?
Maelwys: whispers to Tamar: You can contribute to this one if you want, or just wait and give him something special later
Crys: giggles as she sees the Phantom's expression
Jason: regains consciousness
Q-Three: trips as both camera and hypo go flying
The Hypo: tumbles through the air and lands on Jason's neck
Jason: uhhh... plop
Tamar: thinks a moment and then her face lightens I'll wait.
Crys: wonders about the heavy air traffic around here
Maelwys: to Tamar: Okay, somehow I figured you might. ;-)
Maelwys: So now if everybody would clear out of the center of the room please, we need some empty space
Maike: rolls eyes.
James J. Phantom: moves to Tamar, throwing her a rather helpless look
James J. Phantom: "What is going on here?!"
Tosk: clears out of the way
The Camera: lands and snaps a picture of Jason, asleep
Crys: giggles and watches
Crys: picks the camera and gives it back to Q
Tamar: It's alright. holds out her hand
NAP Hirogen: wonders where there is going to be room with the cake already taking a large amount of the rooms space
Q-Three: thank you... smiles warmly
Maelwys: taps his badge Computer, initiate program Maelwys-Birthday-1
NAP Hirogen: steps to the side
Crys: Just be ready... I wanna see his face! snickers
suddenly in the middle of the room, a piano that is very familiar to James is transported into view
Q-Three: snaps a picture
James J. Phantom: now his jaw definitely drops
Tamar: drops jaw
Maelwys: claps James on the shoulder Happy birthday, friend. :)
James J. Phantom: almost stumbles forward, it entirely taken by surprise
Tosk: watches James' expression with delight
Tamar: Good god... she can only mumble
James J. Phantom: rushes to the piano, running his hand across the black surface My piano!
Crys: grins and watches, has never seen the Phantom like this
Maelwys: can't stop smiling, from watching James' reaction
Tamar: His piano... looks at Mael with so much gratefulness in her eyes
James J. Phantom: looks at them, then back at the piano and his expression is beyond definition
NAP Hirogen: hey James why don't you try it out?
Maike: is glad about everything and just sips the punch
Crys: Yeah! Play us a song!
Maelwys: Yeah, play something for us! :)
James J. Phantom: tries to gather himself and sits down, knacking his fingers
Tamar: walks over and whispers something in James ear
Tosk: starts humming the bars to Piano Man for some reason, and then stops
James J. Phantom: grins a little .... and then plays "So In Love", joining with his voice and clearly adressing Tamar
Crys: smirks at Mael
Maelwys: softly adds his baritone voice to James', smiling at Crys
Tamar: softly joins in
Jason: ZZZZZ...
Crys: thinks "What the Heck!" and joins the singing
Maike: wishes she could sing
Maike: oh well, he wouldn't hear it anyway ;-)
Q-Three: sighs and walks to the corner
NAP Hirogen: pulls out his Saxophone and plays a soft countermelody
Q-Three: snaps a picture
Tosk: enjoys the song, but is too shy to sing along
Q-Three: tosses Maike a hypo containing a counteragent
James J. Phantom: suddenly stops playing, not minding the others around him .... reaches for Tamar and pulls her close, kissing her
Maelwys: laughes a bit but keeps singing even without the piano
Crys: hardly believes her eyes
Maike: catches it
Tamar: returns the kiss with closed eyes and pulls him close
Crys: grins and applauds
Crys: I have the feeling he likes the party. evil grin
Maike: anti-hypos Jason
Tosk: sits and just grins
Jason: uuh... huh? where am I?
NAP Hirogen: agrees
Maike: Here. grins
Jason: looks into her eyes and grins along
Q-Three: snaps a picture
James J. Phantom: frees himself from the kiss and looks around, obviously confused about what he just did
Tamar: smiles at him, a very happy and a very warm smile
Crys: laughs and shoves Mael over to the cake Let's really start the party now!
Jason: reaches up and kisses her, unaware of the previous kiss
Maike: is a little surprised, but has no reason to decline
Tosk: looks at his friends, happy as can be
Jason: is still a little out of it ; )
Tamar: I love you...
Maelwys: wonders exactly what Crys meant by that
Crys: meant eating cake and drinking lots of punch ;-)
Maelwys: Hmm... sounds like a good plan to me grabs a big slice of cake and a cup of punch
James J. Phantom: whispers something only Tamar can hear
NAP Hirogen: yes and there is a lot of cake to eat
Tosk: gets up and moves to the cake, cutting a slice for himself
Maike: looks back and thinks Jason has very pretty eyes
Maelwys: passes the cake and punch to Crys and then takes another slice and another glass for himself
James J. Phantom: I think ... birthday parties are great! and he grins like a fool
Tamar: embraces him
NAP Hirogen: Tosk what kind of ice cream did you get?
Tamar: I agree. I fully agree.
NAP Hirogen: also gets a slice of cake
Tosk: all different kinds...
Crys: makes herself comfortable on the couch
NAP Hirogen: and some ice cream
Tosk: there's the plain kinds, like Vanilla and Chocolate... and then the kinds with nuts, and other things
Maelwys: laughs at James as he walks over to sit on the couch with Crys
James J. Phantom: is fascinated by the different kinds of ice-creams and decides to try some of those
Maike: cuddles against Jason and watches the happenings, drinking the punch
Jason: puts his hands around her waist
Crys: takes care there's some music to dance
NAP Hirogen: would recomend having the vanilla if anyone is having both cake and ice cream
Jason: did someone say dance? grins
Tamar: tries to decide about the icecream
Q-Three: snaps TWO pictures : )
Maike: Dance?
James J. Phantom: takes a bowl and tries the colourful ones
Tosk: thinks about being the DJ, and then decides nobody would dance to his style of music ;-)
Tamar: What do you recommend? takes a bowl as well.
Crys: agrees to Tosk ;-)
James J. Phantom: I don't know ... I have never had ice-cream ....
Tamar: Neither had I...
Tosk: standing close by.. you've never had Ice cream?
Crys: chats with Mael and feels happy
Tosk: well, we'll have to remedy that, won't we scoops them each some of all the different kinds of Ice Cream
Maelwys: watches over the party as he sits chatting with Crys, and is really happy to see everybody having a good time
James J. Phantom: is busy trying all of them, deciding ice-cream is not so bad afterall
NAP Hirogen: hopes JJP likes the cake
Tamar: stares at the colours and then tries them
Tamar: beside the coldness... it's quite tasty
Tosk: seeing James' expression, starts smiling you like it then James?
James J. Phantom: gets a plate and a slice of cake as well
James J. Phantom: Yes. A whole new experience.
Tamar: nods in agreement
Tosk: good simply smiles at his friends' obvious enjoyment
James J. Phantom: tries the cake as well and soon both at once
Tamar: Weird breakfast, don't you think? while trying the green ice
Tosk: looks at the Piano, and then at Hirogen's Saxophone.. wonders...
James J. Phantom: chuckles
NAP Hirogen: thinks and then puts his saxophone away for now
Tosk: hmm, shrugs the thought away
Tamar: grins Seems we are just unable to eat together.
Tosk: can't shrug it off... asks James if he knows a song by the name of "Bohemian Rhapsody"
Tosk: sighs... apparently not... could have used his skill on the Piano..
NAP Hirogen: searches the Kedanya data base for the song
James J. Phantom: knows the song.... is only now aware of Tosk
James J. Phantom: sits at the piano, putting the bowl and the plate away, and plays
Tamar: doesn't know the song, but enjoys the music
Tosk: goes out of the quarters, grabs his guitar and amp, and walks back in, grinning
Maelwys: laughs at the selection of music, but then sings along
Crys: happens to like this song a lot and grins
Maike: sings as well, very softly
Tosk: gets his guitar ready.. motions to Hirogen to get the computere set up for special effects
NAP Hirogen: sets up the computer
James J. Phantom: plays and sings and enjoys himself ... and his very first birthday party.
Tosk: starts playing with a little distress, but starts to feel confident and plays better
Tosk: starts singing the background
Crys: giggles and thinks this is surely the most crazy b'day party she's ever been to
Maike: thinks she could've played that well too, if she only finished the courses...
NAP Hirogen: joins in the singing
Tosk: plays wildly
Tamar: just listens, loving this so much
Tosk: starts playing with his teeth and then slows down ;-)
and suddenly .... **POOF!** James is gone.... and Tamar, too .... leaving nothing but a cloud of stage smoke
Tosk: listens to the final chords on the piano and sings along to the end
Maike: stares... wow.
NAP Hirogen: gags on the smoke
Tosk: cough
Crys: rolls eyes.... typically Phantom
Maelwys: looks around at what just happened and laughs.... just like James to run out from his own party
Maelwys: Well everybody, it seems that James and Tamar want some time alone so I guess the party is over now.
Tosk: yes, I suppose so... starts cleaning up
Maelwys: I'm glad that everybody seemed to have a good time, especially James. Same time next year? :)
NAP Hirogen: of course Mael
Tosk: wouldn't miss it
Tosk: walks out of the quarters saying good-bye to his friends
Maike: Yep. Great punch, by the way.
