II: Participation

II.3) Prerequisites for playing:

All players will be required to play at least five (5) STCCG Online game outside the STCCG Online Team Challange before starting their first round game to familiarize themselves with the online rules. This may be done before or after registration and all games already registered on the Hall of Fame are valid for fulfilling this requirement.

You must also form teams of 4 players. Each player will select a different format (Constructed, Voyager Only Constructed, Constructed Draft, Players Choice Sealed) and play that same formatthroughout the course of the tournament, against other people playing the same type of deck. When forming your teams, the total HoF points of the team must be less than or equal to 1850. Non-ranked players are considered to have a HoF rating of 200. This will prevent one "Dream Team" completely dominating the tournament. Because of this limitation there will have to be some juggling of players to arrange the best possible fit. It is suggested that if you wish to play in the Challange, you should post a note on the Kedanya BBS with your handle, HoF score, and preferred format. Then you can search for other people that fit well with you, and try to build a team. Remember to stay balanced, because if you get a 600 point star as one of your Sealed Deck players, you only have 1250 points for the remaining 3 players on the team.

II.4) Registration period:

All registrations must be received by Friday, August 31, at Midnight EST. Note that having played for the Hall of Fame does not constitute an automatic registration.

III: Tournament format

III.1) Format:

The STCCG Online Team Challange will be played differently from the usual Decipher Swiss system. The players will form 6 teams of 3 or 4 players each, and each player will get a chance to play against at least 1 player from each of the other teams. At the end, the team with the most points will be declared the winners. There will be 4 different deck formats in play.  At the beginning of the tournament each team splits up the 4 formats between its 3 or 4 players, and each player will play the same format for all 5 rounds. If there are 3 members on a team, one player must play the same 2 formats for the entire tournament. Team members may not switch formats amongst each other. The formats are Constructed, Voyager Constructed, Constructed Draft and Player's Choice Sealed

III.2) Seeding:

The pairings will be made such that each player will play every other person who is using the same deck format, one from each team. A matrix will be worked out to allow this.

IV: Deck construction

IV.1) Card Pool:

There will be 4 different card pools, one for each player on the team. They are as follows:

1) Constructed
Each player will construct his/her own deck using all cards available to the public. Deck restrictions are as followed.

2) Voyager Only Constructed
You may only use cards with the Voyager property Logo on the top, and any DQ missions. The afore mentioned deck construction rules still apply.

3)Constructed Draft
In This Format, you will use the Constructed Draft Utility set to 4 players. You may only use the cards you get from the draft, no additions. This is an OTSD format.

4)Players Choice Sealed
You will submit an order form to one of the head judges for any 8 packs of STCCG (yes, you can mix -n- match). You will get a card pool made of those packs, and one OTSD premium pack. There are no other cards to be added to this.

Any questions ? Mail the SOTC Director

IV.2) Deck limits:

Deck limits given by the Decipher tournamet rules (as of the starting day of the respective round) apply to Constructed Decks. Sealed Decks can only use cards that appear on the list they receive prior to the starting of the round. Other than that, decks must conform to the virtual card collection all participants are supposed to possess and may include:
- No more than two (2) of any given Ultra-Rare card.
- No more than three (3) of any given Limited Edition Premium card.
- No more than five (5) of any given Rare card.
- No more than ten (10) of any given Uncommon card.
- No restriction on the number of Common cards.
Note: This restriction is not to place any constraints on the decks, it is only intended to represent a reasonably large collection of cards (with the necessary trading to make your current deck possible).

IV.3) Deck alterations:

Any amount of deck alteration is allowed for Constructed Deck players. Sealed Deck players will receive a single pool of cards for the entire tournament, but may modify their deck between rounds.

VI: Judging

VI.2) Head Judges:

Head judges have yet to be decided. To avoid any possible conflict of interest, any head judge involved in the Challange has no jurisdiction over any game that involves their team.

VIII: Scoring:

VIII.4)Dropping out

Because of the nature of the tournament, player reliability is a must. If any player drops out, their team is considered to forfeit any following game which that player should be playing, counting as a full lose with a 100 point differential. Obviously, you want to have faith in your team-mates, or the rest of the team will pay.

VIII.5)Experience Bonus

A player successfully competing in the SOTC for at least half of the tournament will receive the following Hall of Fame bonus:
  • 3 games played: 3 points
  • 4 games played: 9 points
  • 5 games played: 18 points
In addition, every member of the team winning the tournament will be awarded a 12 points bonus.
