Kedanya Ranks and Icons

Kedanya Ranks show up alot, and it helps to know what they mean.

Kedanya Ranks

Kedanya rank is not derived from playing skill but purely from your level of activity at Kedanya.

You do receive promotions for playing CCG and Robo Rally games as well as for judging games and helping out in the maintenance of Kedanya station.

You can advance in rank a lot faster by helping out in maintaining the station - and any traceable activity (except just chatting and posting on the normal online BBS or Dream Card BBS) gets you something. Even participating in an online Booster Draft or posting on the story BBS does.

Every promotion should come as a surprise (it's much more enjoyable that way). Oh, and of course the higher you get, the larger the distances between ranks become.

Flag Officers

Commanding Officer (CO)
The Commanding Officer is the overall responsible for the well-being and development of the entire station. He coordinates the work of all departments and ensures that volunteers for Kedanya will receive adequate opportunity and reward. He is also the final authority in the selection of any Flag Officers. He can promote any member to any rank of Admiral or below. He carries a weight of 5 (five). The default rank for the Commanding Officer is Admiral.

Executive Officer (XO)
The Executive officer is the right-hand person of the Commanding Officer. His primary responsibility is the coordination of specific longterm projects involving several departments. He also serves as a contact point for the general membership to voice concerns that need addressing by the Flag Officers. He can promote any member to any rank of Vice Admiral or below. He carries a weight of 4 (four). The default rank for the Executive Officer is Vice Admiral; he may be promoted to Admiral.

Security Officer (SEC)
Third in command of Kedanya, the Security officer deals with all concerns of a disciplinary nature as well as with proofing the station's coding against intrusion. He is responsible for checking that new signups are legitimate and that disciplinary measures handed down by himself or any other authority are properly followed. He can promote any members but the Commanding and Executive Officers to a maximum rank of Rear Admiral. He carries a weight of 3 (three). The default rank for the Security Officer is Rear Admiral; he may be promoted up to Admiral.

Engineering Officer (ENG)
The Engineering officer maintains the software codebase of Kedanya in both (S)HTML and PERL. He is responsible for ensuring consistent layout and functionality. He ensures that regular backups are made and that software to be worked on is properly checked out and in by those doing the actual development. He serves as a contact point for the membership regarding bugs or feature requests. He can promote staff and field officers to a maximum rank of Commodore. He carries a weight of 2 (two). The default rank for the Engineering Officer is Captain; he may be promoted up to Admiral.

Operations Officer (OPS)
The Operations Officer manages the day-to-day activities for the membership. These consist of CCG tournaments, board game matches, creative activities (writing, graphics, fun competitions) and any other activity that can be done in an online chat / messageboard community. He can promote staff and field officers to a maximum rank of Commodore. He carries a weight of 2 (two). The default rank for the Operations Officer is Captain; he may be promoted up to Admiral.

Science Officer (SCI)
The Science Officer maintains the reference and database sections of Kedanya. He is the primary author and editor for strategy and game-related articles. His duty encompasses the regular release of associated online gaming magazines. He can promote staff and field officers to a maximum rank of Commodore. He carries a weight of 2 (two). The default rank for the Science Officer is Captain; he may be promoted up to Admiral.

Medical Officer (MED)
The Medical Officer is the recordkeeper of Kedanya as well as being responsible for processing new cadets until the point they graduate to full field officers. He reviews the promotion and award requests made by all other members for fairness and confirms them into the member database. He also maintains the Kedanya Academy through which cadets earn their field commission. He can promote staff and field officers to a maximum rank of Commodore as well as promote within the cadet ranks. He carries a weight of 2 (two). The default rank for the Medical Officer is Captain; he may be promoted up to Admiral.

Staff Officers

Staff Officers (S:xxx) and Attachés (A:xxx)
Staff Officers assist the Flag Officers in their duties. They are appointed by a Flag Officer to carry out a defined part of that Flag Officer's responsibility on a longterm or continuous basis. The exact extent of this duty is defined between the appointing officer and the appointee. A Flag officer may designate one of their associated Staff Officers as their key assistant (attaché) who can, for the case of absence act with Flag authority (with a weight of 2 regardless of which
position they stand in for). They can promote field officers to a maximum rank of Commander. They carry a weight of 1 (one). The default rank for Staff Officers is Lieutenant Commander (Commander for attachés); they may be promoted up to Rear Admiral. The short designation for a staff officer incorporates the department, e.g. S:MED would be a staff officer associated to the Medical Officer.

Field Officers

(no designation)
Field officers are the normal members of Kedanya. They do not have any responsibility except for maintaining a good conduct and participating in activities they like. Field Officers can do volunteer work and may run events and activities. They have no promotion authority or weight. The initial rank for a Field Officer is Ensign; they can be promoted up to Captain. Exceptional Field Officers completing a major project for a Flag Officer may attain the rank of Commodore.

Cadets
Cadets are new members in their orientation phase. To achieve full membership and a Field Officer position, a cadet must:
- Be a member for two weeks
- Pass an Academy test showing basic knowledge of Kedanya and one of its activties
- Actively participate in at least one instance of their chosen main activity.

A cadet meeting none of these requirements will carry the rank of Cadet 3rd class, a cadet having completed one that of Cadet 2nd class and one having completed two that of Cadet 1st class. Once all three equirements are completed, the cadet is elevated to Field Officer status and Ensign rank. A cadet must complete these requirements within three months, otherwise their membership will be ended for lack of interest.

Promotion Authority limit
No officer can promote a member to a rank higher than the one they themselves hold.
